Next BMW M2 pictures: spyshots of the hottest 2-series

Published: 28 July 2021

► M division goes back to basics
► Rear-wheel drive, 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder
► A touch under 500bhp

The new BMW 2-series was revealed just weeks ago, and now we’ve got fresh pictures of its hottest variant: the M2. Despite more and more compact cars from Munich going front-wheel drive, the 2-series remains a drivers' car – and the next M2 will be the ultimate expression of it.

Our spy pictures show the beefed-up Coupe covered in camo, but it’s still possible to make out a beefed-up body and tweaked kidney-grille – now with horizontal slats.

The front and rear aprons will almost certainly be more aggressive – though that camo makes it hard to see. You'll see a power bump on the bonnet, and it’s possible that the headlights will be different the standard car, too.

Just like the new 2-series – and the M3 and M4 – the forthcoming M2 will be rear-wheel drive, only here our intel suggests it’ll use a 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin turbo, good for around 480bhp.

CAR understands there'll be an all-electric version of the M2, called the iM2. You can read more about the iM2 here.

Inside, expect an interior similar to the new 2-series – with one key change. Our spy shots show a curved infotainment screen, rather than the flat one of the standard car.

After the ‘standard’ M2, expect a Competition and even hotter CS version to follow.

We’ll update this story when we know more.
