► New metal and concepts, from Audi to Porsche

Monterey car week is nearly upon us, and that means we’re braced to see exotic new – and old – metal from some of the automotive industry’s leading brands. The car week is actually made of a handful of separate events throughout the last week of August, all taking place as you’d expect, around Monterey.

The most popular event is Pebble Beach, but LeMons, the Quail and other automotive events take place during Monterey car week, too.

In this article we’ll outline what each event is, and what we’re expecting to see there. Keep reading for your full guide to Monterey car week 2018.

Pebble Beach

The most popular event in Monterey car week, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is held each year at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, and it’s probably the most prestigious event of the week – as well as the most famous.

This year, Pebble Beach falls on August 26, and it’s where we’re going to see the majority of the new cars. Below you’ll find a quick outline of what to expect.

Audi PB18 e-tron Ingolstadt EV racer will be shown on August 23, but appear at Pebble Beach.

Bugatti Divo Described as a Chiron built to eat up corners, only 40 Divos will be made – and they’ll cost $5million each. Bugatti is showing it off at Pebble Beach first.

Infiniti Prototype As yet unnamed concept will be first from new chief design. It’s electric obviously.

Lamborghini SVJ The ultimate Aventador will make its official debut at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. We’ve snapped it testing, though.

Mercedes EQ Silver Arrow Electric retro-racer with possible land-speed record styling.

Pininfarina PF0 Design firms electric hypercar will be shown to prospective buyers only

Porsche Project Gold Stuttgart takes on Singer with a 993 resto-mod all of its own

The Quail

A much smaller affair that the Conours d’Elegance which can see up to 15,000 spectators, The Quail is limited to just 200 cars and 3000 attendees. As you can tell from the name, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering – to use its full name –takes place The Quail Lodge & Golf Club. A maximum 3,000 tickets are sold to this event to avoid crowds. Unlike the Pebble Beach Concours, The Quail vehicles are not judged.

Concours d’LeMons

The Concours d’LeMons, also known as the LeMons Rally, is a celebration of the dull, weird or genuinely crap cars out there. You won’t see a gleaming, concours-condition show car here; so it essentially balances out all of the above. Here’s what it was like last year.
