From September 1, Benedetto Vigna will slide into the position of Ferrari's CEO. Vigna, 52, has been poached from the electronics industry, having been with the French-Italian multinational STMicroelectronics, since 1995 – a manufacturer of semiconductors, among other things.
Ferrari states Mr Vigna's role as CEO will be to ensure the brand 'continues to build on its leadership position as the creator of the world's most beautiful and technically advanced cars.'
Chairman of Ferrari, John Elkann, said: 'We're delighted to welcome Benedetto Vigna as our new Ferrari CEO.
'His deep understanding of the technologies driving much of the change in our industry, and his proven innovation, business-building and leadership skills, will further strengthen Ferrari and its unique story of passion and performance, in the exciting era ahead.'
Getting techier
Turning to a leader hailing from the tech sector is a very clear indication of the direction Ferrari intends to take over the next few years. Ferrari has already promised its first full electric car by 2025, and we can expect that electric focus to continue.
Maranello is also one of the few brands to remain profitable last year, and has not announced any delays or changes to its plans for new and upcoming models.
The new boss speaks
