Dacia has revealed the Jogger, a new seven-seat family car that goes big on space and functionality. Despite dwindling sales of people carriers in Europe, Dacia thinks it's got the right combination of space and usability for what's expected to be a low price when it goes on sale in November 2021.

Give me the debrief, then

The new MPV essentially looks like a Sandero that's swallowed a wardrobe, taking on a similar front grille design and headlight arrangement. Despite the lack of 'Stepway' branding like that seen on Dacia's supermini, there's also a lot of chunky body cladding around the edges and a faux skid plate on the front bumper.

It's 4.5m long, with a 2.9m wheelbase, allowing for bags of interior space. Dacia proudly says all seven seats can accommodate adults, and there's up to 1819 litres of boot space (or 213 litres with all seats up, or 712 litres with five seats in place). The middle row splits 60:40 and can be rolled forward to allow access into the rearmost pair of chairs, which can be removed completely. Dacia also says there are 24 litres of cubby space around the cabin, including a massive glovebox and big door bins.

What engines can I have with it?

Two engines are available from launch: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo making 108bhp and Dacia's 99bhp 'Bi-Fuel' LPG/petrol combo engine. Dacia claims economy figures of 37.1mpg and emissions of 121g/km with the latter, also saying that – when it's full of fuel and LPG – the Jogger can do more than 600 miles without refuelling.

On top of that, the Jogger will be the brand's first model to benefit from a hybrid. Not a PHEV, but Dacia says the hybrid model will have a 1.6-litre petrol, two electric motors and an auto 'box.

Any clever tech?

Well, nothing ground-breaking but plenty of handy conveniences. All Joggers have blind spot monitoring, parking sensors and camera and hill start assistance. Like the Sandero, the Jogger can either have a clip for you to use your phone as an infotainment device or, if you go for a higher-spec model, an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Elsewhere, the roof rails switch to become a roof rack on plusher models with an 80kg load capacity.

When can I buy one?

You can get your order in from November 2021, with the first deliveries starting in 2022. No prices are confirmed yet, but it'll be a bargain for sure.
