► Footage looks promising

Yeehaw, folks. What you see here are the first official pictures of Ford's next Ranger pickup truck, which will share a platform with the new Volkswagen Amarok.

The full reveal will happen later this year, with the truck going on sale in 2022.

What's this about VW?

In 2020 Ford and VW signed an agreement that would 'expand' their 'global alliance'. The fruits of this partnership will be jointly produced vans and pickup trucks.

The Ranger is the first pickup to come from it. In the future, the Transit Connect and VW Caddy, Transit Custom and Transporter, and Transit and Crafter will all be combined.

Back to the Ranger...

Ford has released little info on the Ranger, other than describing it as 'embracing superior off-road credentials and Ford's dynamic driving DNA'.

Ford goes on to state that it will be 'the toughest, most capable, and connected Ranger pickup yet.'

Show us the video, then!

Footage shows the pickup gallivanting over very rough terrains in Australia and New Zealand, which is 'torture testing' according to Ford.

The company is keeping hush about technical details like engines and powertrains but the video does reveal the ethos of the Ranger with this video.

It certainly seems lifestyle oriented. Which makes sense considering the Ranger is a global product aimed at countries like Australia and the USA where pickups are used as everyday cars. Ford even describes the Ranger as 'the ideal pickup partner for work, family, and play.'

What about the current Ranger?

The current Ranger is coming to an end of its life cycle so it's special edition o'clock. Recent limited run models include the Wolftrack, Stormtrack, and motorsport focussed MS-RT.
