MG has tweaked the styling of Britain's most affordable and boring electric estate car. The facelift brings a smoother EV-style nose with a more prominent charging port.
The whole front end – lower bumper, headlights and lower 'air intakes' have been tweaked too. One other notable feature is the flap on top of the charging port. MG has decided to make a feature of it and the central lid is clearly visible above the number plate – there's no subtle hiding of the port behind an MG badge here.
If you're the sort of person interested in an MG 5, we bet you carry a tape measure with you at all times to measure boot sizes. Luckily MG has said that the boot space hasn't changed over the outgoing model.
There's 479 litres with the seats up and 1,367 litres when you drop all of them to the floor.
Power, range, charging times etc
The battery offering remains unchanged from the outgoing model too. That means there will be two to choose from. The 61.1kWh version offers a 249 mile range while the 51kWh model brings a 199 mile range.
The former will be available from launch while the latter will follow soon after. Both are powered by the same 154bhp motor with 260Nm of torque.
Hey Google...
Thanks to a partnership with Google, the 5 should be connected and able to provide real-time information on things like traffic, parking spots and the weather and to be able to stream music.
You should be able to control various things remotely too by saying 'Hi MG' while driving, or via the smartphone app while you are away from the car.
The 5 is also in line to be one of the first MGs to get the brand's new connectivity system, dubbed iSMART.
Pricing
Pricing isn't yet finalised for the MG 5 and is set to be confirmed closer to the UK launch in the first quarter of 2022 but it is set to start at under €30,000 (£25,497) – much the same as the outgoing car.
