Background
The Corvette C7 and ZR1 are GM's ultimate muscle cars – rear-drive sports coupés with good ol'fashioned chunky V8s under the hood. The C6 is merely very fast, the lightweight, tweaked-up ZR1 ludicrously fast. Both are performance bargains. 60sec road test
The latest 'Vette is quite a machine, and one that's finally closed the gap with Europe's finest sports car makers. Thought American muscle couldn't do proper steering? This generation has feel at the helm, and doesn't fall apart at the first hint of a corner. And with the small-block V8 alive and well, performance is assured, with 0-60mph taking low-fours and top speed north of 170mph. The C7 is a hugely likeable sports car that blends just enough American flavour – big-capacity shove, great noise, suitably wild exterior shapes – with a newfound dynamic brilliance. Of course there are issues to overlook, but they're a price worth paying in our eyes.
