Background
The Toyota C-HR is a new addition to the company’s range, adding a degree more contemporary polish and streetside posing to the more functional RAV4 SUV. For more information on the C-HR, click on our further stories on the links below.
60sec road test
C-HR stands for Coupe High-Rider, illuminating some of the background to this new type of Toyota. The C-HR is all about the style - outside and in. It shows how much more adventurous Toyota has become under new leadership: it feels like a concept car that’s escaped from the catwalk to the showroom, with highly individual styling and a distinctive cabin. No diesel engine is available; choose instead from a 1.2-litre turbo or a 1.8 hybrid.
The one we’d buy
Toyota C-HR Dynamic 1.8 Hybrid
The one we’d avoid like the plague
Think carefully before going for a non-hybrid model
Rivals to consider
Audi Q2, Infiniti QX30, Mini Countryman
For
Comfy ride, supportive seats, refinement on offer, large boot
Against
Those looks might be a bit Marmitey, thick rear pillars, lack of steering feel
Starring in CAR Magazine
The Toyota CR-R fought it out against the Mini Countryman, Range Rover Evoque and Peugeot 3008 in our crossover quick test back in Issue 658 (April 2017).
It lost to the Countryman on this test, but all four cars on test are very appealing.
