 Here’s the next Type R
Based on the more conventional-looking, new Civic
 But still aggressive

Honda has revealed official spy shots of the forthcoming Type R ahead of its release in 2022. Unlike the images we've already snapped, the new shots show the hot hatch under minimal camouflage and sporting an eye-catching red wrap. Thankfully, headache-inducing paintwork aside, it’s still possible to see those familiar Type R traits underneath.

As with the previous gen car, the new Civic Type R uses the new hatch rather than the sedan as a starting point, and then adds on the performance icing. This Civic sits lower, and it’s also possible to make out beefier Brembo stoppers and a wider, more aggressive body.

At the rear, the next Type R sports a wing that’s every bit as overt as you’d have hoped, and it’s complimented by a triple exhaust – now a hallmark of Honda’s Type R badge.

How fast will it be?

We’re expecting Honda to stick with a familiar 4-cylinder, turbocharged powerplant, though now it’s expected to put out something closer to 330bhp –  a touch more than the 316bhp the current gen has. Fans of manual gearboxes will be pleased to know it’ll feed into another six-speed manual ‘box.

We’ll update this article when we know more.
