Alpina has got its hands on the 8-series Gran Coupe, creating a sleek new luxury four-door for its range of customised BMWs. It comes not long after the launch of the XB7 SUV, which we’ve driven.
Like any Alpina, the B8's exterior details are subtle. Standard equipment includes large multi-spoke wheels, bespoke Pirelli tyres, big brakes and traditional Alpina colours and trimmings, including the usual lettering on the front bumper and optional coachlines along the front and sides.
Power comes from BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, producing 613bhp and 590lb ft – the same power output as the mammoth XB7 – making the B8 capable of sprinting to 62mph in 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 201mph. The B8 also features a sports exhaust system, a bespoke tune for the eight-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel steering as standard.
Like most Alpinas, the B8 also features a Comfort+ setting for its suspension system, allowing for a softer edge to the driving dynamics for long cruises. The B8 also has BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, along with a limited-slip differential for the rear axle.
